About the role

Laerdal Medical’s market-leading healthcare simulators are being embraced by customers all over the world. They are used for a wide range of purposes, such as teaching nursing students how to prepare a patient for surgery to looking for latent safety threats during a complicated delivery in an Obstetrics Department.

The Simulation Software Product Group has developed sophisticated digital products that support and facilitate a holistic simulation user experience. Our group focuses on developing software solutions that are designed to be used with physical training manikins. These tools help our users design, deliver, and evaluate their simulation activities with the aim of facilitating immersive training and learning experiences.

As Lead Service Designer of our product group, in Stavanger, Norway, you will facilitate the strategy and vision process.  You will drive use-centered discovery, design, and development processes in the product teams, ensuring our solutions meet the needs of the users while balancing business viability and feasibility. You will be responsible for the overall user journey and support the various touch points owned by various teams.

Through your work you will be collaborating with cross-functional teams that include designers, product managers, software engineers, and hardware experts. This is an exciting opportunity to work on products having a direct impact on patient safety and the competence and confidence of healthcare professionals on a global scale.

Some of what you will be doing  
– Gain in-depth understanding of healthcare simulation, its purposes, contexts, and user needs. With time become an expert in healthcare simulation
– Drive research at various stages of the development process, including exploratory and evaluative research, e.g.  uncovering insights and opportunities at initial stages, defining new projects and products
– Develop the vision for the overall simulation user journey and communicate this to all the stakeholders
– Create and drive the design strategy for the portfolio of Simulation Software products, while making sure it is aligned with the broader Laerdal Ecosystem
– Work together with the Product Group to ensure user-centric vision and strategy and design processes are being followed by all the product teams
– Scoping, planning, and leading design at all stages of the development process
– Facilitate workshops and co-creation sessions with users, partners, and stakeholders
– Lead, guide, and support designers in the product teams, to ensure a collaborative culture and alignment across various teams and workstreams

Please note that due to the nature of the work, we expect you to travel approximately 20% of the time, globally.

Who we envision would fit the role  
– Master’s or above degree within design, strategy, or entrepreneurship
– Minimum 8 years of relevant design experience with demonstrated leadership skills
– Comfortable with early-stage projects and identifying business opportunities
– Experienced in managing stakeholders and partner relationships
– Systems thinker who balances business goals with customer needs
– Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills
– Enthusiastic and proactive, with a positive attitude and a willingness to take initiative.
– Experience in digital software development in a B2B context is a plus
