Service Designer

Deichman bibliotek/Oslo Public Library
Every day, tens of thousands of people visit one of Deichman’s libraries in Oslo. They come to borrow a book, read the daily newspaper, attend an event, join an activity, study, or simply spend time with friends. To ensure these experiences feel seamless and welcoming, our patrons need user‑friendly, well‑designed digital and physical solutions.
Deichman is seeking a designer who can translate insights into solutions that make the library easy to use, working across both physical and digital touchpoints with the bigger picture in mind. We’re looking for someone who actively explores future possibilities, tests them, and brings them into everyday life.
You understand users and workflows, and you create strong solutions in collaboration with other professionals. You’re not afraid to explore new technologies to see how the library can both improve today’s services and remain relevant in the future. You communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
Your Responsibilities
- Identify and understand patrons’ needs and communicate them to stakeholders
- Actively contribute to building an insight‑driven culture focused on continuous service improvement and user involvement
- Lead user‑driven development, innovation, and change in cross‑disciplinary environments, supporting Deichman’s goals
- Visualize user insights and journeys so it’s clear and easy to understand what needs to be developed across the organization
- Manage processes within service design and UX
- Design, prototype, and user‑test concepts
Your Qualifications
Required:
- Relevant higher education (minimum bachelor’s) in UX or service design
- At least 3 years’ experience in product or service development
- Strong experience with user testing, prototyping, and insight work
- Solid experience with process management and participation methods
- Familiarity with WCAG, universal design, and accessibility
- Documented results in driving user‑driven development, innovation, and change in cross‑disciplinary environments
- Proficiency with design tools such as Figma
- Strong Norwegian skills, written and spoken
Preferred:
- Experience in large organizations or the public sector
- Experience working in agile product or service teams
We’re Looking for Someone Who
- Enjoys meaningful work and understands the library’s role in the city
- Can connect user needs with organizational goals
- Is structured, analytical, and skilled at prioritizing
- Communicates clearly and builds strong relationships across teams
- Is curious to learn new methods, tools, and technologies
- Handles ups and downs in change processes with good humor and thrives in complex, evolving environments
- Works well independently and enjoys juggling multiple tasks
