Service Designer

Kamer van Koophandel
As a Service Designer, you play a crucial role in this complex government context, making service delivery surrounding two major life events—closing a business and death—better and more people-oriented. We are looking for a strategically strong designer who can shape vision and roadmaps, connect complex stakeholder networks, and quickly make ideas visual and tangible. This is a temporary position for a duration of 12 months.
Within the government, we work based on the Life Events philosophy. In this approach, the entrepreneur’s lifeworld is central, not the organization’s systemic world. In this role, you focus on two themes.
Theme 1: Stopping (strategy and visualization)
You support and execute action lines of the ‘Stoppen’ vision process, which the Chamber of Commerce (KVK) has set up together with the Tax and Customs Administration. Your assignment is to structurally improve the joint services for entrepreneurs ceasing operations. Within the project duration of 12 months, you will deliver:
- a translation of the long-term vision into concrete, actionable steps and tangible improvement initiatives
- visualizations of customer journeys, concept sketches, prototypes, and service blueprints, so that the change becomes widely applicable and understandable
- co-creation and working sessions that strengthen collaboration between all involved parties
Theme 2: Death (facilitation and backlog)
You activate the accumulated backlog and contribute to ongoing action lines, such as deferral of commitments and process improvements. Within the project duration of 12 months, you deliver:
- Process improvement through designing and facilitating 3 to 5 targeted sessions
- new backlog items, with a vision on services for the bereaved as a priority
- better cooperation between governments, banks, and notaries, by structurally resolving bottlenecks in the user experience.
Your role
As a Service Designer with proven impact, you activate stakeholders and engage them in a compelling narrative, using prototypes and visual tools such as the service blueprint and the business model canvas. You are successful when, together with the program team, you get the ball rolling within the organization, from idea to implementation.
In short, you are working on:
- the joint lines of action of the Chamber of Commerce and the Tax and Customs Administration for the life event Stopping
- 3 to 5 sessions focused on process improvement within the life event of death
- a shared vision on services for the bereaved and addressing bottlenecks between the government, banks, and notaries
- visual artifacts, such as service blueprints and customer journeys, that form the blueprint for the new service delivery
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who enjoys bringing about change and recognizes themselves in the profile below:
- a completed higher professional or university education
- Demonstrable multi-year experience leading and executing Service Design methodologies and processes in complex organizations
- Conceptual and analytical ability, which you know how to translate into a strategic approach
- Customer-oriented and results-driven, with highly developed communication skills to act effectively at the intersection of business and IT
- Experience in leading and engaging others in a client-driven design process, with an impact on inspiring and coaching peers and increasing professional knowledge across the entire practice.
- Strong in organizing and planning, a true team player who takes responsibility
