Tēnei tūranga – About this role
The Service Design team is responsible for child and human centred design across Oranga Tamariki to achieve better life outcomes for children and young people, and recognises that Te Ao Māori and tikanga are central to the methodology and content.
As a Service Designer, you’ll be a hands-on design expert, taking concepts forward and working hand-in-hand with partners and teams to embed confidence and capability in the application of human centred approaches to developing and implementing services that enhance the life outcomes for children and young people. You will champion design thinking within our group and across Oranga Tamariki – picking up on trends, future thinking and drawing on research and developments in tamariki and whānau based design.

This EOI includes a section relating to the key accountabilities that will be assessed by the selection panel. Thes are:
- Design – Champion service design and work with partners to design and scale projects and initiatives that are child centred and fit for the business. Instil project teams with the confidence to explore innovative design solutions that are fit for purpose, recognise and reflect the range of perspectives, views and constraints that exist within the operating environment. Develop and deliver insights and design principles from raw customer data and documenting people / Process / technology requirements to achieve a desired future state experience.
- Business Engagement Advice and Support – Develop and deliver progress reports, requirements, documentation and presentations. Provide service design related advice and support to other areas of the business. Encourage and share best practice within service delivery.
- Facilitating and Coaching – Facilitate meetings with key stakeholders to develop and test service design research, analysis and implementation of service design approach. Provide coaching and support in the implementation of a child – and human – centred service design approach.
- Relationship Building – Build and maintain key internal relationships across Oranga Tamariki in support of the team’s role and contribution to the work of Enabling Communities & Investment. Identify, build and maintain effective working relationships with external stakeholders. Form partnerships with communities to support locally led responses that enable tamariki and whānau to thrive.
- Cultural Competency – Knowledge and understanding of tikanga Māori and Pacific concepts, incorporating this into your day-to-day mahi and to champion and encourage demonstration of Oranga Tamariki values and cultural competency framework.

Your responses to the questions contained in this EOI will be reviewed by a panel and it is important that you take time to prepare your answers carefully. The panel will be looking to see in your answers that you demonstrate how you meet the selection criteria, detailing your skills and knowledge including specific examples of your relevant experience for this role.
The EOI also includes information-only questions to help panels understand team make up, location flexible working and job share requests.
