The role

While we know UX and service design are not the same things, we believe there is a shared mindset, as well as shared skills and methods. So, if you already practise both UX and SD , or are a UX designer and have started branching out into service design, then this job is for you. We are looking for someone whose experience goes beyond interfaces and can show holistic thinking is part of their design portfolio.

We build great products that are both physical and digital. Day to day, you’ll be part of the product teams designing and developing these products, working end to end, from research to delivery. We put the user at the centre of our design process: you’ll be working closely with product managers, product researchers, design engineers and data scientists to make sure we design product experiences worthy of the Elvie brand. Persona development, user journey mapping and wireframing should be your bread and butter. But our customers’ experience is broader than just our products: they may buy them direct or from a partner retailer, they may find out about the products via the activities of our marketing team, in various channels, be it press, digital advertising or social, and they may engage with our customer care team. We want the service designer in you to map these touch points, make sense of them and be able to relate them back to the business, to help craft our offerings for our users, to let both them and us derive more value out of what we are already doing.

Who you are

  • You’re a user centred designer with at least 5 years of commercial experience
  • You understand users and love crafting engaging experiences for digital and physical products
  • You understand service design and know how to demonstrate its value
  • You want to work with both user experience and service design
  • You recognise the immense benefit of testing with users and proofing your ideas against reality
  • You enjoy problem-solving and possess the ability to translate business problems into creative and compelling experiences at both the feature and service levels
  • The idea of working within a successful, high growth startup in a fast-paced role excites you

What you will do

Design cutting edge connected products

  • You will work with our Product teams designing innovative connected products
  • Sketch and prototype the experience for new products and product features
  • Analyse and improve the user experience of existing product features
  • Help guide user research and interpret and explain insights gained from this research
  • Constructively review the work of other designers

Design beyond the products

  • Work across teams to map and design experiences that transcend individual product usage
  • Identify service areas that have been neglected and require attention
  • Analyse problems in existing services and identify causes
  • You will work in an environment where developing first-class solutions in an enjoyable atmosphere is the goal.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of commercial experience as a designer of products and/or services
  • An eye for user behaviour and the ability to think like a user
  • Solid experience of UX design, thinking in flows, not interfaces
  • You can develop new design concepts through sketching and using prototyping tools (Marvel, Figma, Invision, XD or similar)
  • You have experience of service design and a solid understanding of its principles
  • You can set out goals for user research and clearly interpret the results of that research
  • You have excellent communication skills and can explain ideas and concepts in a way that non-designers and non-technical people understand
  • You can lead workshops and engage a cross functional team with the design process
  • You have experience negotiating important design decisions with senior stakeholders

  • Knowledge of accessibility guidelines
  • Experience of working in cross-functional teams
  • Working in design sprints
  • Experience helping and coaching other designers
