Senior Service Designer

As a Senior Service Experience Designer, you will play a leading role in defining design-led approaches to understand, untangle and solve complex technology challenges for us and our clients. Designers at Digital Catapult work on wicked problems and ambiguous projects while helping others unlock the value of emerging technology. You are passionate and knowledgeable about how to map current and future states, and how that in turn can create new opportunities for businesses and their people using advanced technological solutions. You have extensive practical experience in the way collaborative, human centred design activities help you inspire and collaborate with senior stakeholders, engineers, technologists and innovators in order to research, experiment, define, design and build products and services that make a difference. This is a great opportunity to work together with diverse and multi-skilled teams to help speed up the adoption – across AI, blockchain, 5G, IoT, AR, VR and quantum technologies –in the UK’s creative and manufacturing sectors.

What You’ll Do
- You’ll be leading research and design activities within interdisciplinary teams who work on our growing portfolio of industrial service design projects with the aim to drive the adoption of advanced technologies
- You’ll consult, interview, facilitate and collaborate with our clients to reframe challenges and uncover new processes and opportunities that we can deliver internally or with our network of start-ups
- You will collaborate with engineers, technologists and innovators to develop, guide and oversee the delivery of meaningful, measurable and scalable products and services
What We’re Looking For
- You love sinking your teeth into complex challenges, always curious and comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders when things are ambiguous
- You’re persuasive in a good way. You are an ambitious and skilled service designer who makes others want to go with you on the journey
- You can speak to everyone in their language. You’re a great strategic and pragmatic thinker and communicator
- You are hands-on and as happy to plan and facilitate design workshops as you are picking up a sharpie or a new digital tool to communicate ideas and put together journey maps and service blueprints
- You have proven extensive experience working as a service designer (or similar) at a midweight or senior level in industry or at a consultancy
- You have a varied portfolio of work that you’re proud of and that demonstrates how you apply design methods, your process, research rigour and your role in turning ambiguous challenges into impactful outcomes
