About the role

NHS Digital are currently looking for a Lead Service Designer to work in our critical business area, the Product Development Directorate.

Product Development is responsible for the design and delivery of user-centred and inclusive products and services that result in better care and improved health outcomes for people in England.

In this role, you will be working on the Digital Transformation of Screening; the redevelopment of services and products to re-design the national adult screening programmes (e.g. cervical screening, bowel screening). You will specifically be working on re-designing Breast Screening, working to ensure that it is safe, flexible, easy-to-use, and that it leaves nobody behind.

As an expert Service Designer, you will:

  • Design and develop the service blueprints, both ‘as-is’ and ‘to-be’ for breast screening the U.K.
  • Provide service design leadership to co-create a future vision and strategy in collaboration with product management, making it tangible and real.
  • Run co-design workshops with users, staff and senior stakeholders aligning both user needs and business goals.
  • Be part of a multi-disciplinary agile team and contribute to prototyping and testing efforts, to ensure that we continuously learn and iterate.
  • Use research evidence and design knowledge to negotiate with senior stakeholders and ensure the organisation is building the best end to end service for users.

About you
​​​​​​​Some of the key skills and experience you will bring:

  • Experienced in service design at a senior practitioner level, with a solid understanding of organizational design, interaction design or graphic design.
  • Experience in developing service vision in collaboration with product managers and creating a service design strategy on how to get there for other designers to follow.
  • Experienced in leading user-centred service design, in agile, multidisciplinary teams with a focus on accessibility and inclusive design.
  • Experienced in a relevant working environment or have qualifications equivalent to a master’s level.

Please note if London based, you will receive a London weighting allowance which is 20% of the salary subject to a minimum payment of £4,473 and a maximum payment of £6,890.
