About the role
Millions of people are locked in poverty in the UK. We don’t believe that’s right. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to solve it. JRF’s new strategy is to work alongside others to build public and political will for change and demand for solutions.
This is a temporary role but one that will oversee some significant, impactful improvements at JRF. We are a couple of years into our transformation journey, with 2020/21 seeing an investment in the discovery and development of JRF’s core online offering. This post holder will sponsor this project at the JRF Leadership Team, providing oversight and assurance to the delivery team and subject experts across the organisation.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in a short space of time.
You’ll be coming into an organisation that has moved into a matrix structure, driven by outcomes and OKRs. You’ll lead a talented and passionate team whose mantra is to ‘make stuff better’ and you’ll become an essential part of our ongoing transformation to become a social change organisation that can solve poverty in this country.
About you
We are looking for an experienced digital leader who can demonstrate a track record in service design and transformation.
You’ll be used to driving improvement through the application of design thinking and new ways of working, including the use of Agile methodologies and open collaborative techniques.
You’ll be an exceptional communicator with a passion for accessibility and will be able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Being collaborative and personable, you’ll be keen to work with colleagues across the organisation and with external partners, including those with lived experience of poverty.
You’ll have an interest in JRF’s research, analysis and policy solutions. Having the energy and ideas to develop services that enable our users to support our vital outcomes.
About us
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation is a social change organisation with a 100-year history. We are built on trust, show we care, and exist to make a difference.
We work with others to put forward sector-leading research, evidence, solutions and stories to the UK’s influencers and decision-makers.
We believe that a prosperous poverty-free UK is within reach – we just need more people to believe it too.
To make our vision a reality we need talent, ideas, skills and passion, plus we need to change some of what we do and how we do it. So, we’re part way through a significant period of change – during which we are becoming an outcomes-focused organisation that embraces new ways of working and modern practices.
If you share our passion, then we need to hear from you.

Our commitment to diversity
We are committed to creating opportunities for under-represented groups. BAME groups and those with a disability are under-represented in the organisation and are positively encouraged to apply. We shall apply Section 159 of the Equalities Act 2010 in the recruitment process.

We positively encourage applications from those with experience of living in poverty. We are also committed to making reasonable adjustments for disabled people.
