Position Summary

We at Navis are looking for a Service Designer to join a cross-functional team that has the mission to incubate ideas, develop and test concepts as well as accelerate early-stage product development. You will be working on new and innovative digital products for different users in the shipping industry, such as terminals, shipping lines and transport & logistics providers.

You will be focussed on facilitating the development of strategic, new services aligned with Navis’ vision of Making Global Trade Smarter, Safer and More Sustainable for Everyone. In your role as service design expert, you will work hand in hand with a Concept Owner and a Technical Lead in assessing opportunities in a structured manner and will, in some cases, take developed concepts all the way to market. You will ensure that required validated learning activities take place and that concepts effectively address customer needs. You do not shy away from organizing and leading customer workshops and interviews, will select the right tools, create and communicate content.

We are looking for a person that has in-depth, demonstrated domain expertise in service design disciplines and most importantly, you have a passion for validating customer or user problems, gathering evidence and turning it to impactful solutions with the rest of the team. You thrive in putting the pieces together and get a kick out of seeing projects progress.

You like designing user interfaces, creating mockups for the development team and digital content such as animated videos or demo recordings. You find creating training content and user documentation another welcome challenge.

Your good communication, presentation and design skills allow you to create impactful visuals that will inspire stakeholders, open their eyes and create a lasting impact on the concepts we are working on. Your passion, commitment, positivity and can-do attitude inspires the people around you.

The position is based in Rotterdam and you will be reporting into the Senior Manager Applied Innovation.

Responsibilities

  • An experienced people-first-minded team player and leader who is passionate about developing human-centred services.
  • Design for both the target user’s experience and our global organisation’s ability to implement and scale.
  • Design and measure experiments to gather evidence to inspire and improve concepts.
  • Lift teams confidence and discipline to explore innovative design solutions while respecting deadlines.
  • Approach things systemically and use a diverse set of methods & tools that illustrate all the components and touch-points of the service.
  • Comfortable in challenging stakeholders on the journey of bringing experiments and pilots to life.
  • Agile and can flex between being scrappy to move fast and detail-oriented to go deep, navigating the ambiguity of designing for complex problems.
  • Analytical with experience in synthesising quantitative and qualitative data, and feeding this into design direction.
  • Has to be able to create digital content spanning from documentation over training material to user interface mockups.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience in a design consultancy or equivalent position
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Background in psychology, sociology or ethnography considered as plus
  • Ability to work within a self-directed culture and navigate ambiguity
  • Good knowledge from Lean Startup, Customer Development, or industry preferred
  • Proven designs and experienced launching services in the real world
  • Deep expertise in design thinking/human-centred design
  • In-depth knowledge and experience within a relevant service design discipline (Systems Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Interaction Design)
  • Creative mindset to come up with new designs to solve our customer’s problems
  • Experience in technical writing is a plus
  • Experience in working within agile / scrum teams is a plus
  • Experience in working with Figma and Jira is a plus
