Service Designer

We are looking for a trainee to join our design team at City of Helsinki!

Our design team is part of a digital transformation programme and one of its key project – renewing our main website hel.fi. In this project you will join our efforts to design digital services for residents and visitors of Helsinki. Our projects are related to all key city services, such as living, daycare, schools, healthcare and so on.

City of Helsinki has been a pioneer of service design for ten years already! Helsinki designs good life. Design is our way of building the world’s most functional city and equal, just society for all. Global challenges are solved in cities. Design is a way to boost this change.

We are looking for one service designer or user researcher trainee. You will join our design team of 11 people, including user researhers, service designers, UX/UI designers, content designers and IT architect. You will also work closely with the business divisions and communications, services and digital experts across the city organisation.

This time we are looking for a non-Finnish speaker.

Who are we looking for?
…You are studying design at master’s/postgraduate/YAMK level (service design, digital design, any design) or athropology/sociology or other related subject.
…You are a non-Finnish speaker
…You are able join us full-time or part-time between October and December 2021.

What will you do as a trainee?
…Of course it depends on what you are most interested in. We want to design this traineeship together with you.
…You will join our team at the time during which we are starting new service design projects. This means the focus of your work will be the first half of service design process, that is creating a design brief, conducting user research, analysing research data and finding insights, designing synthesis and service design outputs.
…You will be able to join many co-creation workshops, take part in user research online and offline, and participate in the agile sprint rituals of the whole hel.fi project team.
…You could focus on one project, for example the ground school education (perusopetus). You could really add value to our research and service design for non-Finnish speaking families in Helsinki.
