Service Designer

Are you passionate about sustainability and interested in supporting social and environmental impact projects? We are looking for a Service Designer to support McKinsey.org’s Delterra Rethinking Recycling initiative in Argentina full-time for 3 months in our new pilot location in Olavarría, Province of Buenos Aires. CONTRACT DELIVERABLES

We are looking for a passionate, high-performing Service Designer to contribute to a collaborative program team of Delterra colleagues, external staff, and local partners in Argentina. The Service Designer will be based in Olavarría to work on our GIRO (Gestión Integral de Residuos Olavarría) project for 3 months and will be expected to complete the following:

• Design the behavior change strategy to optimize source separation results through a practical application of service design, behavioral science theory, and design thinking tools to develop the MVS to be scaled to the whole city of Olavarría in 2022 for:
  • Schools for different ages and grades
  • Recreational/community venues such as parks, clubs, and events
  • Multihousehold approach for buildings
  • Commercial generators of different segments (e.g., from small shops to hypermarkets)

To succeed in these deliverables and further contribute to the success of our project, we expect the following attributes:

• Self-driven and goal oriented. Being capable of leading projects, being autonomous while also collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. Experience in complex, fast-changing contexts.
• Solid research skills and experience. Knowledgeable in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and tools (e.g., contextual and stakeholder interviews, ethnographic research, shadowing). Experience in the development of fieldwork tools and insightful analysis of research findings.
• Cultural interpretation and systemic thinking. Having a solid theoretical ground to interpret community’s needs and expectations and practical experience in designing with research findings and empathy. Also having well-structured and clear thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with service design tools. Service mapping and strategic proposal techniques (e.g., service blueprints, value proposition definition and concept design), prototyping solutions (e.g., customer journeys, service design blueprints, storyboards, roleplay).

QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking candidates with significant experience in service design. The Service Designer will work closely with the GIRO Behavior Change Project Lead.

• Minimum 5 years’ work experience in service design
• Experience managing service design for complex implementation projects with diverse stakeholders
• Demonstrated aptitude in conceptual and analytical problem solving applied to experience/behavioral design
• Professional fluency in Spanish and English required (both written and spoken)
• Must be an Argentinian resident familiar with the local culture (all nationalities are welcome to apply)
• Track record of establishing credibility and communicating effectively with a broad range of people, from community representatives to senior leaders
• We prefer candidates with:
  • Work experience and/or undergraduate degree in related fields (e.g., behavioral or social sciences)
  • Work experience with major NGOs or corporations, especially on behavior change, strategy and/or implementation
  • Having experience as consultant or teacher/professor
  • Passion for making change happen in the environmental and/or waste space.
  • Ability to create storyboards, flowcharts, wireframes is welcomed. Also having an eye for visual design and fluency in digital design.
