About the position
We are looking for a Service Designer (Senior Engineer) for a full-time temporary position for 12 months, due to temporary absence in the section. As a Service Designer, you will be part of the Design and User Experience Section at the IT Department at the University of Oslo (UiO). The section consists of 25 employees, and is one of the largest design environments in the university and college sector (UH sector) in Norway.
We are looking for someone who has a strong professional commitment and who has a user-centered and creative approach to problem solving and service development. If you are also someone who shares your knowledge, can communicate and visualize, is curious and dares to challenge, we will be happy.
We emphasize commitment and motivation to develop user-friendly services that support our social mission in research and education.
As a service designer with us, you will join UiO’s service development team , which consists of service designers, organizational developers and communication advisors.
You will also become part of a professional community with other designers, with regular weekly and monthly professional activities, such as “UX class” and “professional Friday”.

What skills are important in this role?
As a service designer at UiO you must have:
- Relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree in design, and a portfolio that demonstrates the qualifications in practice with a focus on process, methods and benefits. Prior experience relevant to the position may compensate for the educational requirement.
- very good written and oral presentation skills in Norwegian and English
- work experience as a full-time service designer
- in-depth understanding of the design process – from insight and analysis, to conceptualization and implementation
- good communication and visualization skills and confident in the role of facilitator in workshops
- experience with user testing and iterative design process
- ability to lead projects and collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams
- ability to understand and interpret complex organizational needs and translate them into user-friendly services
