Service Designer

As an Associate Service Designer in you’ll work in a multidisciplinary team, alongside policy experts, user researchers, designers, product managers and technology experts, to develop innovative approaches for integrated services across HMRC, and government. You’ll be part of our active and supportive design community, within HMRC and across government.
You will contribute to a service design approach to HMRC services.
In this role, you will develop in the following areas:
Agile working. You will learn about agile methodology and the ways you can apply the principles in practice. You will take an open-minded approach and know why iteration is important and can do it quickly.
Communication skills. You will know about the need to translate technical concepts into non-technical language and understand what communication is required for internal and external stakeholders.
Community collaboration. You will understand the work of others and the importance of team dynamics, collaboration and feedback.
Digital perspective. You will demonstrate an awareness of design, technology and data principles. You will be engaged with trends in design and know how to set priorities. You will understand the internet and the range of available technology choices.
Evidence- and context-based design. You will know about the value of evidence-based design and that design is a process.
Strategic thinking. You will develop an awareness of the strategic context of your work and why it is important. You will support strategic planning in an administrative capacity.
User focus. You will identify needs and engage with users or stakeholders to collate user needs evidence. You will understand and can define research that fits user needs. You can use quantitative and qualitative data about users to turn user focus into outcomes.
Responsibilities
Essential Criteria:
• Interest and awareness of the importance of Service Design
• Strong communicator, with excellent technical writing and dealing with external partners and interfaces

Qualifications
Currently in your second year of university, studying full time towards a relevant bachelors degree in one of the following fields: IT, Computer Science, Design/Web Design or a Business related degree.
