The opportunity:

We’re looking for a strategic-thinking Service designer to join our team!

In this role, your work may involve the creation of, or change to, transactions, products and content across different channels provided by different parts of government. Therefore, you will be working with multi-disciplined team which include Interaction Designers, User researchers and content designers.

The role may require frequent travel to client sites, several days a week. You’ll be expected to travel to customer and Atos sites UK wide, working from client/office/home locations as appropriate.

Candidates must be eligible SC clearance.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyse failure within services and identify root causes for that failure.
  • Find opportunities for cost reduction and improvement within an existing service.
  • Understand user needs and identify where separate interactions with government should act as one service that meet that need.
  • Arrange these separate interactions into rational user journeys within that service.
  • Look for commonalities in activities across services where products could be made
  • Understand the existing supporting system of a service and design targeted improvements to that system to accommodate the new service – both digital and process based.
  • Deliver user journeys, User flows, site flows, sketches, wireframes, and prototypes etc.
  • Identify and design new cross government service patterns and standards.
  • Understand and have experience of a range of user-centred practices.
  • Demonstrate evidence of working in an Agile way with clients to assist them in defining strategic services and solutions to move them along the digital transformation journey.
  • Communicating efficiently and work together within a multi-disciplinary team, fostering the open and collaborative culture.
  • Understand and can work within given constraints (including but not limited to technology and policy, and regulatory, financial and legal constraints).
  • Visualise, articulate and tackle complex problems and concepts, and make disciplined decisions based on available information and research evidence.
  • Willing to contribute to the work of the community.

Skills we can’t do without:

  • Experience of designing the end-to-end journey of a service, offline and digital channels.
  • At least 3- 5 years’ experience as a service designer.
  • Experience of working within the Government Digital Service (GDS) guidelines and standards.
  • Previously worked with Government agencies such as HMRC, DWP, HMCTS, Home Office etc.
  • Know about agile methodology and can apply an agile approach to your work.
  • Understand the importance of team dynamics, collaboration and can give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Evidence of experience in producing documentation such as, presentations, briefings, feature specifications, and processes.
  • Experience of working within constraints.
  • Can interpret vision to lead on decisions, make and guide effective decisions, explaining clearly how the decision has been reached.
  • Prototyping in code, and apply technical knowledge and experience to create or design workable prototypes, both programs and physical outputs.
  • Take an overall perspective on business issues, events, activities and discuss their wider implications and long-term impact.
  • Understand users and can identify what their needs are, based on evidence

Skills we’d like:

  • Business analyst experience.
  • Experience participating in GDS assessments.
  • Proven expertise of using the GOV.UK Prototyping Kit.
