Job description

As a Senior Service Designer, you will:

• Provide service design leadership and direction, and work closely with other government departments for a cohesive approach to service design.

• Prioritise understanding the needs and actual behaviour of users and help teams use this insight to underpin and drive the work they do.

• Assess performance of services and teams against digital by default standards.

• Use facilitation skills to enable others to see where improvements could be made, and benefit them.

• Using tools such as sketches, scenarios and diagrams such as maps, blueprints and prototypes

• Know how to design accessible digital services, and how to analyse demand and failure within a service.

• Identifying root cases for that failure, frame problems, identify desired outcomes and key measures.

• Lead discussions at a senior departmental level and enable change (e.g. operational, organisational, policy, financial or technology) to support the delivery of better services

• Encourage and mentor individuals, service teams and other parts of the organisation in these areas, running training and workshops to facilitate learning

Responsibilities

Essential Criteria

You will be able to demonstrate:

• How you use and communicate data and research to influence design thinking, e.g. creating diagrams and sketches that clearly communicate users’ journeys, interactions and other behaviours through services

• Your ability to scope and communicate the vision and roadmap for a service you have worked on

• Influencing positive change through relationships

• Experience of working in agile teams

• How you have encouraged collaboration

• Skill in designing or re-designing services to be user-centred, and more effective or efficient

• Solid understanding of digital approaches and technology to understand how services can work better

• Develop the knowledge and understanding of others, leading organisational change

Desirable skills

• Passionate about designing user-centred, accessible services

Desirable criteria will only be assessed in the event of a tie break situation to make an informed decision.
