Service Designer

As part of this, we’re looking for a Service Designer for our organisation. This exciting new role will be key as part of a new Data and Insight Team in the newly established Insight, Transformation & Organisational Development service, helping us to achieve our ambitions for Lewisham as we learn lessons from the pandemic. The role will help us advocate service design and help us to build our services to meet user needs using a behavioural, data and insight approach.

The role
This role has been created as part of a restructure as part of our central insight, transformation and organisational development functions. The post holder will work as part of a team that enables the Council to achieve a joined-up experience that meets user needs across its systems and services. By getting to the heart of understanding people’s needs, the post holder will help to inform design decisions with insight and empathy. You’ll help the wider team and organisation develop a deep understanding of the people that use our services and the people who deliver them.

Our council is changing fast, with a new executive team and ever changing demands and pressures on our public services. This new post will play a key role in helping us to make sure we meet our priorities and provide the best possible services and opportunities for our residents and our staff.

The post holder will work closely with residents and services in the council to identify opportunities for applying service design, and deliver transformation programmes that help us implement innovative solutions to the challenges we face. As part of a new service, the post holder will be an advocate for service design across the organisation, helping services gain a comprehensive understanding of user needs, identifying where separate interactions within the council should act as one service to meet those needs.

What we’re looking for
The successful candidate will have experience of questioning and challenging conventional thinking, with a continual eye on the bigger picture. They will bring experience of service design and behavioural insights, or a similar field, and be someone who cares deeply about the user need and evidence based decisions.
