Senior Service Designer

What’s the role?

We’re looking for an experienced service designer to contribute to the building of a new UCD practice at the Agency. You will be comfortable co-ordinating customers, colleagues and stakeholders; getting hands on with research and data to deliver insights; and creating artefacts that will help the Agency understand how to deliver great services and business benefits.

This person will help to set the direction and embed good service design practice within our teams. Specifically, this role will involve working with senior product owners and programme directors to develop design concepts and leading service design activities across multiple or highly complex services.

As the lead service designer, you will be a practitioner who can influence and mentor others. It’s the first time the agency has built this function in-house so you’ll need to ensure that teams take a user-centred, evidence-based approach to the design and delivery of services, by developing designs based on evidence of user needs and organisational outcomes. You will be responsible for recruiting an additional service designer and will over-see their day-to-day line management.

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have experience of advocating for people and user needs in all aspects of design work; experience of user-centered design and service design, and of negotiating design decisions with senior stakeholders.

You will have a track record of working with stakeholders and colleagues from other disciplines in a variety of ways, as well as the ability to work autonomously away from their team

You will be confident in, and have experience of making effective decisions using user research and data, in order to improve a service, reduce complexity and generate new ideas.

You will be a confident communicator, able to explain design ideas and concepts in ways that other people understand, including visualising, sketching and prototyping
