Service Designer

As an inclusive service designer, you will have a multi-disciplinary role, working across technical and research teams, to develop and design energy service propositions and user experiences for great user outcomes and valuable insights.  You’ll be a creative problem solver, using research insights to design great experiences and also define the research needed to give evidence for your great designs.  You’ll often be working on sophisticated, long-term projects for private and public sector clients.

There are lots of opportunities to learn new skills and work with our multi-disciplinary team including people with market research, design and trial expertise.

Key Focus

Working independently with our research and design teams to design inclusive consumer experiences.

Define how to deliver design work that is tailored to the needs of relevant vulnerabilities.

Conduct design work in projects to accelerate the net zero transition for low income and vulnerable households.

Develop and document best practice for research and design work sensitive to relevant vulnerabilities.

Demonstrate how working with vulnerable consumers can result in better outcomes for new products and services.

Communicate design decisions to clients that demonstrates the value of working with vulnerable consumers.

Capture requirements and design experiences for our Warm Home Prescription product and service to meet the needs of vulnerable consumers.

Identify the latest developments in inclusive design methods and incorporate into CI team processes, work and outputs.

Key Work Activities

• Develop and deliver inclusive design projects.
• With support from the Fair Future lead, collaborate with clients and specialists in the team to design projects that meet client’s brief.
• Assess, design and implement how existing Warm Home Prescription product and services could include inclusive design best practice.
• Support project technical leads with production of relevant outputs.
• With support from the Fair Future lead and project technical leads, be responsible for making inclusive design decisions.
• Support colleagues around the business to understand the value of inclusive design and working with vulnerable consumers.

What credentials are we ideally looking for?

• Educated to degree level with a master’s or higher in design, human-computer interaction or service design or relevant other experience.
• Extensive experience working with designers and researchers in a commercial environment.
• A track record of using design to support of the development of new products and services.
• Confident using most common service design and user research methods and tools.
• Experience translating user needs into experiences and/or products.
• Ability to manipulate, analyse and interpret complex information.
• Likely experience in agency or consultancy

Desirable Skills

• Proven leadership, team working and project management skills.
• Experience using design to support the development of digital products.
• Working knowledge of vulnerabilities and vulnerable consumer needs in a range of consumer-facing markets e.g. energy, water, finance
• Working knowledge of user research
• Creative approaches to solving complex problems.
• Demonstrable expertise using research and design methods in commercial innovation.
• A creative approach to design, developing innovative solutions to challenges throughout the project life cycle from design to implementation and reporting.
