Service Designer

As a Service Designer in the Design team in our Enterprise Change group, you will be using your skills to solve some challenging problems and utilising your design thinking and human-centred design knowledge through active participation in the many areas that form a modern transport system.  These include responding to the current and future needs of New Zealand by designing solutions to address climate change issues, promoting and increasing safety, the transition to electric vehicles and sustainable modes of transport, access to public transport, and service improvements to customer facing channels.

You will be involved in teams completing customer research, understanding current state and proposing how we make improvements with customers and users at the centre of your thinking.  You will be familiar and confident with human-centered design practices, exploring customer challenges, ideating and prototyping solutions.

Your ability to navigate complexity, be consultative, and recommend the right course of action will be important to your success, as will your ability to apply design thinking and bring customer, user and stakeholders on the journey to identify opportunities that meet the needs from a customer and business perspective.

As we work in an advisory context with the wider business, your ability to collaborate, communicate, form relationships quickly, use initiation, and recommend the right courses of action will be valued.  Other key aspects of this role will be contributing to building our service design team capability.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• experience with Design Thinking and the application of Human-Centred Design to business problems
• experience in the application of design processes and solutions delivery, in particular business and customer related design and delivery in a large complex organisation
• indepth understanding of design research and innovation tools, techniques and methods
• exceptional communication and facilitation skills
• an agile mindset and approach to solving problems and getting results
• the ability to add value through collaboration and the establishment of strategic relationships
• some experience and/or ability to advise and consult across a range of internal stakeholders to build credibility across Waka Kotahi
• a strong desire to contribute to the service design team and capability development
• work experience in roles solving problems, solutioning, or advising

A tertiary qualification in design, business innovation, user research or other relevant area is desirable.
