‘Kotahi anō te kaupapa, ko te oranga o te iwi’ – ‘There is only one purpose to our work:  the wellness and wellbeing of our people.’

Ara Poutama Aotearoa is one of New Zealand’s largest government departments. At the heart of Hōkai Rangi, our over-arching strategic direction, is the pursuit of oranga – the wellbeing of people. Building our frameworks from a Matauranga Māori basis is our focus to drive and support equity for Māori, achieving transformative and inter-generational change for those in our care and their whānau, which in turn will contribute to achieving our outcomes of reducing reoffending.

About the role | Mō te tūnga

The Principal Service Designer is at the forefront of providing strong design leadership and advice that takes into account a wide range of stakeholders and complexity.

As a Principal, you will bring knowledge and skills to role model best practice to the wider team, whilst driving forward initiatives that are organisational priorities or actions directly from Hōkai Rangi and applying best practice approaches and cultural frameworks to inform future service design.

In return you will be part of a passionate team who are focused on delivering change that makes a difference in the lives of New Zealanders. Our work programme is dynamic and offers the opportunity to be involved in many parts of the organisation.

About you | Mōu

Our ideal candidate will have a curiosity, flexibility, and openness in analysing and integrating ideas, information, and differing perspectives to make fit-for-purpose decisions.  You will think, plan, and act strategically to engage others in the vision, and position teams and organisations to meet immediate and future needs of the people in our care and management.  You will be comfortable to lead and communicate in a clear, persuasive, impactful, and inspiring way to convince others to embrace change and take action.

Significant experience in developing and leading human-centred service design and delivery processes, strong influencing skills, the ability to operate effectively in a Māori cultural setting and a proven commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi are essential to round off your profile.
