Who you are

A natural problem solver, you thrive on tackling complex challenges, especially those in the public sector. You are energized by leveraging modern technology, design, and research to create equitable and accessible services. Ambiguity doesn’t scare you—it fuels your curiosity and drives you to find innovative solutions.

We’re looking for an empathetic, friendly, and passionate Service Design and UX Designer to become a vital part of our team, playing a role in every step of the design and delivery process. Someone who embraces the principles of equity, inclusivity, and accessibility. You are a quick learner and thrive when working with new organizations, new problems, and new systems.

As a Service Design and UX Designer you’ll work with talented people on important projects for great organizations like the Provincial Health Services Authority, Government of British Columbia (Ministries such as: Health, Environment, Attorney General, Education, Agriculture), FortisBC, and Honeywell.

What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Service Design and UX Designer at OXD, you will:

  • Lead strategic planning through service-specific workshops around organizational value and change.
  • Communicate a service vision through service maps, roadmaps, and other artifacts illustrating value delivered to citizens and the government.
  • Lead user research for complex and high-profile projects through a variety of methods appropriate to the design problem (interviews, observational research, policy reviews, comparative analysis, and prototype validation).
  • Co-create viable solutions to identified user needs and opportunities.
  • Design and test prototypes of service concepts and digital touchpoints to ensure effective delivery.
  • Document detailed requirements in wireframes, user stories, acceptance criteria, and other documentation to convey requirements to development and QA teams.
  • Assist teams in prioritizing requirements and adhering to agreed minimum viable product (MVP) priorities and scope.
  • Identify, communicate and work within constraints, while challenging the validity of program, policy and technical constraints.
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of service iterations and support the implementation of service improvements at scale.

Must have requirements

  • 6+ years in a Service Design or equivalent role.
  • Demonstrated leadership in service design, design research, and experience/design strategy.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate business requirements and user research into prototypes, wireframes, user stories, acceptance criteria, and detailed designs.
  • Expertise in usability principles and user-centred design methodologies, including UX/UI design best practices and usability heuristics.
  • Expertise in various design research methods, including leading co-design sessions with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines, influencing and guiding others.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, facilitation, consulting, and organizational change management skills.
  • Experience working on complex government projects at regional, provincial or federal level.
  • Experience working in an agile environment with multidisciplinary teams.

Bonus points (optional)

These aren’t mandatory, but can help your application rise to the top.

  • A strong understanding of visual design principles, including hierarchy, layout, narrative, and interactive elements.
  • Experience working on data strategies and supporting data governance related to the design and delivery of services.
