The Role and Our Branch

You will work with your colleagues to facilitate a positive team culture and contribute to the operations of the System Services and Responses branch in accordance with the strategic directions of the public school system, legislation and Department policies and procedures. Suitable applicants will assist in the preparation of reports, briefings and other documentation pertaining to Statewide Services. This includes developing high quality and timely responses requested from Statewide Services by the system with input as required from subject matter experts across the division.

As the Senior Consultant – Service Design and Support you will assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects, programs and initiatives to meet current and emerging needs. You will consult and negotiate with internal and external providers to develop, implement and report on student support initiatives and services.

Statewide Services provides the services and supports required by schools to enable student achievement, with a focus on those students and schools that need it most. It encompasses both school and system-facing service delivery.

The Service Design and Support directorate is responsible for strategy, policy, program and operational support to Statewide Services, providing shared functions and supports that enable the professional capability and service delivery teams to improve services for schools. Using our collective skills we aim to ensure that high quality advice and responses are developed in relation to system-facing requests priorities through efficient and streamlined processes.

This requires individuals with strong written communication skills who have the ability to collaborate effectively with a range of stakeholders. You will ideally be very well organised and be able to assist in ensuring that responses and tasks are produced to a very high standard. Suitable applicants are expected to be agile and contribute to problem solving, trouble shooting and establishing processes. The successful applicant will work well within their team and work in a culturally responsive and context specific manner to engage stakeholders productively and respectfully.

  1. Demonstrated substantial knowledge and understanding of public education contexts and operations at a central, regional and school level.
  2. Demonstrated highly developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build partnerships and integrate services both within and beyond the Department.
  3. Demonstrated highly developed written communication skills, including experience in the preparation of reports, briefing and other documentation.
  4. Demonstrated highly developed research, analytical and conceptual skills, including the ability to deal effectively with change and generate innovative solutions.
  5. Demonstrated highly developed planning and organisation skills, including the ability to identify priorities and meet deadlines.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • complete
    • the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
    • training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
    • the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
