Service Designer

About the role

The Service Designer will play a key role in shaping how city governments use and experience the Public Sector Capabilities Index. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the postholder will design the end-to-end service through which cities interact with the Index, including the digital platform, and the tools and learning resources that will be hosted on it.
The role will combine service design, user research, strategic design and other collaborative design methods to create intuitive and globally adaptable resources that help cities interpret results and move from diagnosis to action. The postholder will develop and maintain a service blueprint that brings together digital features, in-person learning experiences, and supporting materials into a coherent and user-centred experience. They also will contribute to the design and testing of the Public Sector Capabilities Index digital platform, ensuring it enables cities, funders, and researchers to access results, compare with peers, and use playbooks and other learning materials for continuous improvement. Through this work, the Service Designer will help ensure the Index acts as a catalyst for strengthening city capabilities, shaping investment priorities, and improving outcomes for people and places.

About you

You are a user-centred service and experience designer who enjoys turning complex policy and data into clear, usable, and engaging services. You have experience mapping end-to-end user journeys, designing and prototyping digital products, and working closely with users and delivery partners to test, refine, and improve platforms and learning resources. You are comfortable producing wireframes, mock-ups, and visual content, and you bring a strong eye for accessibility, clarity, and inclusive design across both digital and in-person experiences. You work collaboratively with developers, researchers, and policy teams, manage timelines and deliverables with confidence, and are motivated by creating practical tools that help cities, funders, and practitioners turn insight into action.
